Around The Web: Publishing Advances, Reading and BIPOC Writers Connect Calls

Hello again, readers! I’m back once again to share content from across the internet. There are a lot of interesting conversations happening right now, so this is only a small sampling. I’m sharing a piece on pay disparity in publishing, a call to read, a queer book list, and an opportunity for BIPOC writers.

Recent Twitter discussions have highlighted pay disparity in publishing. Two Black YA authors, Tochi Onyebuchi and L.L. McKinney started the discussion, which prompted many authors to share the advances they received for their books. The results show that Black authors are not receiving the same advances as non-Black authors. Buzzfeed has more details, including explanation of how advances work.
